BRIEF EXPLANATION ON RECTIFICATION, RECTIFIERS AND SMOOTHING IN EE
What is rectification?
Rectification is just the process of converting a DC
to an AC using rectifiers.
TYPES OF RECTIFICATION
- · Half-wave rectification
- · Full-wave rectification
It should be noted that in the half wave rectification
one rectifier is involved. But the full-wave rectification, two or more
rectifiers are involved.
TYPES OF RECTIFIERS
Two types of
rectifiers are commonly used:
- Diode valves
- Semi conductor devices.
It should be known that
rectifiers have a low resistance in the forward direction and vice versa.
The DC gotten from the rectification of an AC should
have ripples. This ripples are removed withe aid of capacitors, and the process
is what we refer to has smoothing. This process doesn't only remove the
ripples, but also brings up the DC to the required voltage.
